Many times we have found ourselves erroneously submitting wrong dates of birth, age, names or at times adopt different names along the way.

This may not only be questionable in regards to one's academic documents, birth certificate, national identity Card but it may also raise doubts during your job application, when vying for a political position or joining any academic institution.

Upon. Discovery of such anomalies affecting your credentials, you simply take the following steps in verification of the same.

  1. With the assistance of a lawyer, draft a Statutory Declaration in verification of either your name, age, or date of birth.

  2. The Statutory Declaration shall be commissioned by the commissioner of oaths.

  3. Present the same to the official or I institution in need of the same.

Note. This procedure changes when one is desirous of changing or abandoning the use of his/her former names for the new name. In that regard, you will need to follow the following procedure:

  1. With the assistance of a lawyer, draft a Deed Poll.

  2. The Deed Poll should be commissioned by the commissioner of oaths.

  3. Upon pay6 of the prescribed fee, the Deed Poll must be gazetted by the Uganda Gazette.

You will receive a Gazette notice implying that the general public is on notice regarding the new name name adopted.
