During this period where many businesses and places of worship have closed down, many couples have found the need to have their weddings celebrated in unlicensed places.
The safest way to celebrate such weddings however, is to obtain special licenses, they should in addition to the usual requirements, prove to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs that there is no lawful impediment to the proposed marriage and state the reasons why they desire to get married at an unlicensed place of worship.
The Minister shall, if he or she thinks fit, grant the license requested for, and the wedding shall then be legally celebrated.
Note that according to the law, a marriage which is knowingly celebrated in an unlicensed place is not recognized by the law, and any person found performing or witnessing such a marriage ceremony commits an offense and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years.
