During this critical time of the lockdown of all institutions of learning, and other economic difficulties that parents and their children are going through, children have been immensely affected.
The responsibility falls on parents to ensure that children are engaged at all times in productive activities like hand crafts, cooking, house chores and revision of reading materials. This would help to keep these children busy and prevent them from being idol.
It is important that our societies be collectively responsible for the up bringing of children such that any sexual abuse of a child can be brought to the attention of police.
It has happened that many times defilement cases are concealed and settled between the victim's parents/relatives and suspect out side the knowledge of police.
Some children have been sexually molested by their step dads, step brothers and relatives and others have been made pregnant. Mothers need to do more to befriend their own children and listen to them at all times. Give your children time in order to be able to detect any likelihood of the happening of such heinous acts.
It is advisable that at all times, parents should know where to begin from in case of any sexual abuse against a child: contact the child and protection unit of police, engage the are local authorities and ensure that your child is not put in such an area which is so susceptible to her being exposed to sexual abuse.
Regulate what your children watch at home, it is very irresponsible for a parent who leaves the children to watch whatever they want on TV Channels, you are not doing them any better but exposing them to sexual content, language and Pornography.
With the amendment of the children Act of 2016 which addressed the gaps in the principal Act CAP 59, the law is properly written in the booklet, what is missing is the enforcement of the law.
